Email distributor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the computer environment , an e-mail distribution list (also e-mail distribution list , often just distribution list ) is a simple means of group communication that is based on multiple addressing of an e-mail to several e-mail addresses . Solutions based on forwarding to multiple recipients are also in use.

Unlike a real mailing list , there is usually no or only rudimentary protection from email loops , no sign-up procedures such as double opt-in , no archiving (because an e-mail distribution list does not have a dedicated E- Mailbox ) and therefore no access to old e-mails, no e-mail or web interfaces for administration, no auto-unsubscribe for unreachable recipient addresses and only a comparatively small number of possible recipients.

Purposes

E-mail distribution lists are mainly used to forward e-mails addressed to role accounts to the responsible person. In some cases, e-mail distribution lists are also used to send newsletters or the like, which, however , brings with it some problems and restrictions .

Technical implementation

As a rule, several forwardings are created on a mail server for a local part . One also speaks of a (reverse) alias.
