Emart (Korean: 이마트 ) is the largest retail company in South Korea . In December 2016 there were 160 branches nationwide. The company was founded on November 12, 1993 by the Shinsegae group of companies as the first discounter in South Korea.
Emart is the oldest and largest discount chain in South Korea with total sales of more than 15.8 billion US dollars in 2018. With new openings and the acquisition of Walmart Korea in 2006, Emart has expanded its leading position in the retail and discount business. Emart offers everything from groceries to clothing to toiletries and a very large selection of goods. Emart also has an online shop .
In addition to South Korea, the company also has business in the People's Republic of China , Vietnam and Mongolia .
