from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EDAR ( E veryone D eserves A R oof) is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles that gives away mobile sleeping facilities to the homeless. Each EDAR is a small cart on four wheels that can be unfolded like a tent and then offers a small place to sleep. The EDAR also offers storage space for utensils and can be folded up during the day.

history

EDAR was founded in 2007 by the film producer Peter Samuelson . Samuelson came up with the idea after talking to homeless people in Los Angeles. The EDAR was designed by college students in a competition held at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California . The students Eric Lindeman and Jason Zasa created the design and Samuelson then had the EDAR built by a shopping trolley manufacturer. After around 9 prototypes, the first 60 EDAR units were distributed to those in need in Los Angeles in the summer of 2008. EDARs were also tested in Phoenix, Arizona and Camden, New Jersey .
