RBDe 566 of the RM

The RBDe 566-II (230–242), originally RBDe 4/4 II of the EBT Group , are railcars for use in regional transport by the Swiss company BLS AG .

Together with the second series of the BLS RBDe 565 , the EBT Group also procured 13 so-called « Privatbahn-NPZ » in 1984-85 . These are largely identical to the BLS trains, except that the control cars were built as Bt without 1st class. In addition, the wire assignment of the Vst III is different. In 1991/92 all EBT / SMB / VHB control cars received a first-class compartment and became ABt. The RBDe 4/4 were given the designation RBDe 566, the control and intermediate cars were given twelve-digit UIC numbers in 1991/92 . The RM numbers were retained after the merger with BLS in mid-2006. From 2009 the trains will undergo a modernization similar to the RBDe 565, except for those points that have already been implemented for the RBDe 566 II. The former RM numbers are also replaced by TSI numbers . In the case of the intermediate cars, this was concentrated in 2011. Since then, there are no more red intermediate cars.

The additional control car ABt 934 was initially used as an exchange car so that the cars from the 1984-85 delivery could be brought to the workshop to equip them with a first-class compartment. From December 1998 the car was then used, now with a Bt chair, as a reinforcement module for the S4, temporarily on the S3 in 2012.

Today five compositions for the Bern S-Bahn are equipped with a low-floor articulated trolley B Jumbo .

The “Compact” refit and comfort enhancement program was launched at BLS in early 2009, with the RBDe 566-II pendulums also being upgraded by 2012. The measures in detail:

  • Air conditioning control car ABt
  • Destination display in every interior (commissioning later)
  • Video surveillance
  • Network plan at eye level for each entry area, newspaper box, large waste bin and train order
  • Uniform addresses and pictograms on and in the vehicles
  • Technical conservation measures; the vehicles will be in use for another 15–20 years
  • Standardization of the multiple control with BLS RBDe 565

commitment

After delivery, the trains were on all routes of the RM network, including the courses to Lucerne and, at times, to Olten. After the start of the Bern S-Bahn, they also came to Bern and Rosshäuser. After the merger with BLS, in 2007 they were assigned to the regional trains on the north and south ramps (Spiez – Frutigen and Brig – Goppenstein). The wire assignment of individual intermediate cars was adapted so that they can be used in BLS pendulum compositions or with Vst IIId, two cars were used shortly before the merger as reinforcement cars for two heavily occupied S33 trains in the morning behind BLS RBDe 565 . As part of the Lucerne S-Bahn , these compositions ran until 2010 in natural compensation with SBB-NPZ on the Wolhusen – Trubschachen route (S7). From 2011 the use was concentrated on the S-Bahn Bern and Thun-Solothurn as well as the Spiez area.
