Duration of training
Training as an IT businessman takes three years in Austria. The training takes place - as is usual with apprenticeships - in the dual training system . This includes in-company training, which is accompanied by school-based training.
Area of responsibility
The area of responsibility of an IT businessman includes advising customers, eliminating malfunctions and errors, as well as installing and maintaining hardware and software . In sales, they reorder goods and ensure that they are properly stored. IT merchants work in teams in specialist IT retail stores or in specialist departments of department stores and have contact with specialists from other departments (e.g. warehousing , accounting ) and their customers.
Knowledge and skills
- Advising customers on the selection of standard hardware, software and electronic data processing systems, taking into account technical, commercial and legal requirements
- Analyze customer requirements and propose suitable electronic data processing system solutions
- Offering service and support concepts and tailoring them to customer requirements
- Make hardware operational, install and configure software, and simple networks
- Troubleshooting and remedying simple faults
- Working with personal computers (also in networks)
- Preparation, provision and presentation of the company's range of goods and services
- Receiving orders and processing customer orders, including invoicing and payment transactions
- Acceptance, control, storage and maintenance of goods, inventory of stocks
- Conclusion of sales and license agreements, issuing of sales documents such as guarantee certificates, receipts and other documents
