EGAS is the abbreviation for the ESA program European Guaranteed Access to Space , in German program for Europe's guaranteed access to space . The ESA Council of Ministers adopted it in May 2003. EGAS funds are used to subsidize the launches of the Ariane 5 launcher so that it can compete on the world market. For the period from 2006 to 2010 around 1 billion euros were made available. Negotiations on the successor program are currently (2012) taking place.
