The Gabriele-von-Bülow-Gymnasium (abbreviated: GvB) is a gymnasium in Berlin-Tegel .

history

The school was first founded in 1890 as a private girls' school. In 1902 it was converted into a public girls' school, which initially consisted of just two classes with a total of 28 students and two teachers. In 1908 it became a "secondary school for girls". In 1911 the company moved into the Protestant Borsig School in Schöneberger Allee. On December 25, 1912 the school was renamed "Lyzeum Tegel". By 1922, the primary level was dismantled, so that only grades 5 to 10 were taught in the school. On August 11, 1923, the students moved into today's school building in Tile-Bruges-Weg (at the time Steinbergstrasse), which had been built two years earlier by the Borsig company . Since then, the school building has been near the Humboldt Gymnasium . In 1927 a "one-year school for women" was introduced after the 10th grade.

In 1938 it was named after Gabriele von Bülow , daughter of Caroline and Wilhelm von Humboldt and wife of the future Prussian Foreign Minister Heinrich von Bülow . She spent a long time in Tegel.

School operations were resumed in the summer of 1945 after a brief interruption due to the war. In the years that followed, boys were also admitted to school, although girls continued to make up the majority for a long time.

particularities

When registering, the future students of the GvB choose French or Latin as their second foreign language.

In addition, the grammar school offers the possibility of choosing the bilingual German-English branch from grade 7 . From the seventh grade onwards, students receive additional English lessons in addition to the regular classes; From grade 8 onwards, geography is taught in English. In the compulsory elective area from age 8 onwards there is an extended English-language offer that is aimed at both bilingual and regular classes, e.g. B. Drama, Science, Health. Participation in the advanced English course is recommended for bilingual classes, but is not mandatory.

As part of the wind class , pupils aged 7 and 8 can learn to play the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium or tuba.

The Gabriele-von-Bülow-Gymnasium is one of two high schools in Berlin that offer Polish lessons. The foreign language is started as part of the compulsory elective lessons in class 8 and taught continuously until the Abitur.

The school participates in the Berlin program for in-depth professional orientation (BvBO) and offers its students support in professional orientation and career choice.

Partnerships

The Gabriele-von-Bülow-Gymnasium is a “ European meeting school with Poland ” and runs exchange programs with various Polish high schools. In addition to this special connection, the school maintains good partnerships with other foreign schools, e.g. B. in Paris and on La Réunion .
