Waltraud Falk

Waltraud Falk (* February 12, 1930 in Berlin as Waltraud Tessen ; † April 10, 2015 ) was a German economist.

Life

Waltraud Falk was born as the daughter of the SPD functionary Karl Tessen and his wife Erna, geb. Meffert, born in Berlin.

After graduating from the Gabriele von Bülow Oberschule in Berlin-Tegel in 1948 , Waltraud Falk began studying medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin , then switched to Slavic studies and history, and finally to economics. She graduated in 1952 with a degree in economics. From 1952 to 1953 she worked in the propaganda department at the SED Central Committee . In 1953 she moved to the Institute for Economic History at the Humboldt University in Berlin, where she did her doctorate in 1956 under Jürgen Kuczynski . In 1960 she became a lecturer and at the same time director of the Institute for Economic History. In 1962 she completed her habilitation and was appointed professor. From 1962 to 1965 she was Vice Rector for Student Affairs at the Humboldt University. In 1969 she took over the chair of her teacher Kuczynski. From 1979 until her retirement in 1990 she was Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Incidentally, she was Vice President of URANIA from June 1976 (VI. Congress) to 1990 . She also worked u. a. as editor of the Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe (MEGA) .

Waltraud Falk was married, u. a. with the historian Martin Robbe , and mother of three children. She passed away at the age of 85.
