The school's friends' association, the Association of Friends of the Humboldt-Oberschule Tegel (VdFHT), was founded on April 1, 1959 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009. With his support, the school newspaper "Humboldt" appears several times a year. In addition, every year at Easter, it awards a prize to outstanding pupils who have done their work for the welfare of the school with the “Wölkerling Prize”. This goes back to Erich Wölkerling, who had bequeathed part of his fortune to the school with this aim in his will.

In addition to regular lessons, the school offers various options to promote the political commitment of the students. There is a memorial trip to the Auschwitz concentration camp once every school year . In addition, there has been a “Humboldt Without Racism” working group since the beginning of 2009, which regularly organizes events such as lectures, particularly on the subject of right-wing extremism .
