Margarete Buscher

Margarete "Margret" Buscher (* 8. February 1938 in Nordhorn , † 18th April 1991 ) was a German athlete who - for the Federal Republic of Germany starting - in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a runner over 400 and 800 meters in appearance kicked.

It started for the LC Nordhorn, from 1964 for Preußen 06 Münster.

successes

She won two German championship titles:

  • 1958 in the forest run and
  • 1964 over 400 m in the hall

There are also seven German runners-up championships:

  • 1957 and 1958 over 800 m
  • 1961, 1963 and 1964 over 400 m
  • 1963 and 1965 over 400 m in the hall

such as

  • a third place in 1958 over 800 m in the hall

On March 9, 1963 in Berlin , she set an indoor world record over 400 meters with 56.5 seconds.

International competitions

Margarete Buscher started at two international events:

  • 1958 over 800 m at the European Championships in Stockholm , where she was fourth in her heat in 2: 11.3 min, and
  • 1964 over 800 m at the Olympic Games in Tokyo . While another German participant ( Erna Maisack ) was eliminated in the preliminary run, Margarete Buscher came second in her preliminary run in 55.3 s (behind Marija Itkina ) in the intermediate run. There she had to finish the competition in seventh place despite an increase to 55.2 s.
