The EMD F125 is a four-axle diesel locomotive for passenger transport from EMD . It is powered by a Caterpillar type C175-20 engine with an output of 4700 HP (3,500 kW ). The locomotive should be able to pull ten passenger cars with a top speed of 200 km / h. The model is the first new all-diesel passenger locomotive from EMD since the F59PHI .

The catalog of requirements for the locomotive includes compliance with the EPA Tier 4 emissions standard, AC motors, braking energy recovery, train busbar, improved crash properties and a streamlined locomotive body.

The vehicle body is based on a design by Vossloh Rail Vehicles. The high-speed bogies are also a Vossloh development.

commitment

The Southern California Regional Rail Authority , which organizes local rail passenger transport in and around Los Angeles under the brand name Metrolink , has been the first customer to order ten locomotives with an option for ten more. The purchase price is said to be $ 129.4 million. Series delivery began in 2017 after the presentation of the first locomotive in 2016. The contract was signed on May 31, 2013.
