The electric locomotives of the series 3000 of the Electrische Staats Spoorwegen (ESS) in Java were intended for the express train service on the railway line electrified with 1500 V direct current from Jakarta to Buitenzorg . The Java bogie was used for the first time .
history
As part of the introduction of electrical operation on Java, nine test locomotives were ordered around 1920. They were:
- Two express train locomotives of the 3000 series from SLM and BBC from Switzerland
- Two express train locomotives for mountain routes of the 3100 series from AEG in Germany
- Two locomotives for passenger and freight trains of the 3200 series from Werkspoor and Heemaf in the Netherlands
- A small locomotive for light freight trains and local service of the 3300 series from Borsig and AEG in Germany
- Two heavy accumulator locomotives for the shunting service of the series 4000 from Werkspoor, Siemens and AfA
The class 3000 locomotives were delivered in 1924. After the trials, the 3000, 3200 and 4000 series were continued, so that in 1927 two more locomotives were delivered. The locomotives were later given the numbers 1 to 4.
The locomotives were still in use on the route from Jakarta to Bogor in 1973 and were decommissioned in 1976 with the delivery of the new railcars from Nippon Sharyo .
technology
The locomotive had four driving axles and one set of wheels at both ends, which were combined with the adjacent driving axle to form a Java bogie. This type of bogie was used for the first time in the 3000 series, which is where the name came from. The pivot point of the bogie is very close to the drive axle, so that this could be provided with a Buchli drive arranged on the box despite the possibility of radial adjustment . The traction motors were arranged in the locomotive body.
