EVIFA

The Virtual Library of Ethnology - EVIFA is a project of the university library of the Humboldt University of Berlin funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), which is being set up within the framework of the special collections of folklore and ethnology.

EVIFA went online in October 2003 and has been gradually expanded since then with the participation of cooperation partners.

The project is scientifically supported by the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle, the Institute for European Ethnology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , the Museum of European Cultures in Berlin and the Frobenius Institute in Frankfurt am Main.

The aim of EVIFA is to offer folk and ethnologists as well as all other interested parties central, fast and location-independent access to specialist information via the Internet.

The following modules and functions have been implemented so far:

  • Specialist information guide Ethno-Guide
  • Meta search via subject-specific library catalogs in the EVIFA literature search
  • IVB-Online (years 1986–1998 of the International Folklore Bibliography)
  • Integration of the availability display Journals Online & Print of the Electronic Journals Library - EZB and the journal database - ZDB
  • Integration of subject-specific database or database excerpts in the metasearch (OLC, JADE, H-Soz-u-Kult)
  • News / dates / careers
  • Ethno blogs
  • Magazine content service
  • SSG's list of new acquisitions
  • Research course Ethno-LOTSE and other research aids
  • Document server for long-term security and free access to full text resources in Open Access
  • (temporarily): Scientific discussion forum
