Eager lion 12
Eager Lion 12 or Operation Eager Lion 12 was the largest military exercise in Jordan to date . It is part of the Eager Lion maneuvers, which are held annually with Jordanian and US armed forces .
However, other Arab and European armed forces took part in Eager Lion 12 for the first time. The exercise started on May 9th and ended unplanned 3 weeks later on May 28, 2012, 3 days before it actually ended. A reason for the premature end was not officially given, but Syrian newspapers had suspected an allusion to Assad. Assad translates as lion, just as the exercise translates as "covetous lion". Between 10,000 and 11,000 soldiers were involved in the exercise, making it the largest annual military exercise in the CENTCOM region. It was led by Maj. Gen. Ken Tovo , commander of US Special Operations Command Central Command , and Brigadier General Mohammed Jeridad , director of Jordan's Training and Doctrine Command . The scenario envisaged that 3 countries, red, blue and orange, would wage war against each other and deploy units against each other on land, sea and in the air. The use of chemical weapons was also simulated. The media suspect that the exercise could simulate a possible scenario based on the Syrian civil war . However, this was rejected by both the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense and an anonymous participant. The anonymous participant said Eager Lion had been prepared for a long time and was not directed against any specific opponent.
