Earl St. Aldwyn
Earl St. Aldwyn , of Coln St. Aldwyn in the County of Gloucester , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Earls family residence is Williamstrip House in Coln St. Aldwyns near Cirencester in Gloucestershire.
Award
The title was created on February 22, 1915 for Michael Hicks Beach, 1st Viscount St. Aldwyn . This was a well-known conservative politician. Among other things, he was twice Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Salisbury government .
Subordinate title
Along with the earliest dignity, he was given the title Viscount Quenington , of Quenington in the County of Gloucester, which is held by the Heir Apparent as a courtesy title . He had previously been awarded the title Viscount St. Aldwyn , of Coln St. Aldwyn in the County of Gloucester, on January 6, 1906 . Both titles also belong to the Peerage of the United Kingdom.
In addition, he had inherited from his father in 1854 the title of 9th Baronet , of Beverston in the County of Gloucester, which had been bestowed on July 21, 1619 in the Baronage of England to his ancestor, the House of Commons William Hicks .
