Earl of Aumale

Earl of Aumale was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

The title was bestowed on July 9, 1412 by King Henry IV on his second-born son Thomas of Lancaster . Along with the earliest dignity , he was given the overall title of Duke of Clarence . The name of the title refers to the French county Aumale in Normandy, which England had occupied during the Hundred Years War . Since Thomas of Lancaster fell at the Battle of Baugé on March 22, 1421 without leaving any legitimate descendants, both titles became extinct with his death.
