William Knollys, 1st Baron Knollys

Baron Knollys is a hereditary British title of nobility , which was awarded once each in the Peerage of England and in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Awards

For the first time the title Baron Knollys , of Grays, was created on May 13, 1603 in the Peerage of England for William Knollys . On November 7, 1616 he was also promoted to Viscount Wallingford , in the County of Berks , and on August 18, 1626 to the Earl of Banbury , in the County of Oxford . The titles expired on his death on May 25, 1632, as the Committee for Privileges and Conduct of the House of Lords did not recognize the two sons of his wife as the earl's biological children.

A great-great-great-great-grandson of the earl's younger son, Sir Francis Knollys , was the private secretary of King Edward VII. In the second bestowal on July 21, 1902 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, he was awarded the title of Baron Knollys , of Caversham in the County of Oxford . On July 4, 1911, he was also awarded the title Viscount Knollys .
