Earl of Hyndford was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Scotland .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on July 25, 1701 for the Scottish Secretary of State John Carmichael, 2nd Lord Carmichael . He had already inherited from his grandfather in 1672 the dignity of hereditary chief of the Clan Carmichael and the nobility titles 2nd Lord Carmichael and 2nd Baronet , of Westraw in the County of Lanark, which he inherited on December 27, 1647 and July 17, respectively 1627 were awarded. Along with the earliest dignity, he was also given the subordinate titles Viscount of Inglisberry and Nemphlar and Lord Carmichael in 1701 . The respective Heir Apparent from then on carried the courtesy title Viscount of Inglisberry .

All named titles expired with the childless death of his great-grandson, the 6th Earl, on April 18, 1817.
