EarlyBird 1 was a commercial Earth observation satellite from EarthWatch . It should take high-resolution (3 m) images of the earth's surface. However, it has nothing to do with the Intelsat Early Bird satellite .
EarlyBird was successfully launched on December 24, 1997 with a Start 1 rocket from Svobodny in Russia . Four days later, the satellite failed due to problems with the power supply. QuickBird 1 and 2 were built as successor satellites .
