Eberhard (Ebrach)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eberhard († after 1219) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1215 to 1219 . Before that, he was the abbot of Wilhering Abbey in what is now Upper Austria from 1208 to 1215 .

Life

Eberhard was born in the 12th century. Nothing is known about the place of birth of the future abbot, the sources are also silent about the parents and any siblings. Eberhard entered the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach early on and made his vows here. After he was ordained a priest, his mother abbey sent him in 1208 to the Wilhering monastery in what is now Upper Austria .

Here he was the abbot of the monastic community. Nothing is known about the exact deeds of Eberhard as Abbot of Wilhering. What is certain is that he was recalled to Franconia in 1215 . The predecessor Abbot Meingoth had given up in Ebrach and the abbot's chair had remained vacant for years. After his appointment as the new prelate, Eberhard acquired the Sunderhofen Curia from Bishop Otto of Würzburg . Eberhard resigned in 1219 and died soon after.
