Eberswalder Canal German

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kanaldeutsch, in particular Eberswalder Kanaldeutsch ( Eberswalde ) or Finower Kanaldeutsch ( Finow, district of Eberswalde ), denotes the variety of the Berlin dialect spoken in the Finow valley or the former Eberswalde district and in neighboring parts of the Uckermark and Oderland . The name possibly goes back to the Finow Canal and the resulting exchange with the Berlin dialect, and refers to the contrast between this and school German on the one hand, and the Märkisch Platt on the other. The term is used, among other things, in the local colloquial language of Schwedt, the Uckermark, Wriezen and Freienwalde, but is mainly associated with Eberswalde. At the end of the 1980s, "Kanaldeutsch" referred to a Low German that was perceived as bad and was viewed as a lower Eberswalder city language. More recently, however, the term has been used mostly positively.

The Eberswalder Kanaldeutsch differs from Berlinisch, among other things, in that it has preserved the Northmark article dat alongside the Berlin article det "das" .

A typical form of expression in Eberswalde is the frequent use of the word '- like' in different combinations (examples: money-like [jeltgenössich], zeitweise [temporal]). Do not be very lucky.

Special features in the sentence structure

  • You could have said that - you could have said that
  • have se - have they become
  • Furthermore, the word “so” is often used instead of “that” (for example “I know that this is wrong!” [I know that det / dat / dit is wrong]).
