Ebertseifen is a former farm in the municipality of Katzwinkel of the Verbandsgemeinde Wissen in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The name is said to have originated from the connection between the tenant's name Ebert and Seifen. As soaps moist lowlands and drainage ditches are called.

geography

Ebertseifen - formerly also known as Bornhof - was located on Hileweg or Bornweg, which went from Betzdorf / Sieg via Katzwinkel through the Wildenburger and Bergisches Land to Essen / Ruhr and met the Westphalian Hellweg there . The soil in this area consists of greywacke and slate , which is only weathered to a shallow depth. In addition, most of the precipitation, an annual average of 950 mm per year, falls in the summer months. This favors the use of grassland and thus animal husbandry.

history

The farm was first mentioned in 1437.
The Ebertseifen farm was created in 1589 by dividing the neighboring Hassel farm and was the lease of the Counts of Hatzfeldt - Werther zu Schönstein. It could be leased for 7 to 12 years for a fee, e.g. B. annually 3 Malter Korn, 1 Malter barley, 5 Malter oats, 4 chickens, master money, land, bridge, church and castle services.

The farm became known through the story by J. Rinscheid: Lorenz von Ebertseifen . Then Lorenz is said to have set fire to the courtyard in 1614, which burned down completely, but was later rebuilt. Since he was accused of "magic" he was burned in 1629 on the Blumenberg near Friesenhagen.

1621 the farm was listed in the inheritance and rent book of Johann Adrian von Hatzfeldt zu Werther. The residents were the Urigshardt Reifenrath, Bleeser and Wagener families

In 1830 the farm had: 1 house, 1 bakery, 1 barn with stable. In 1871 there were nine residents.
In 1950 Wilhelm Wagener cultivated approx. 18  hectares of land. In 1960 the buildings of the old courtyard were demolished.

Today there is a nature station at the former location of the Ebertseifen Habitat Association. Since 2007, the former agricultural area has been dedicated to nature conservation and increasing biodiversity in the region. With gentle measures, numerous small habitats (ponds, hedges, orchards, rock fillings, etc.) are being created in order to create areas for survival and retreats for the flora and fauna typical of the region.
