Ebira (ISO 639-3 is igb) is the language of the Igbira people and is a nupoid language spoken by around 1,400,000 people in the Nigerian states of Kwara , Nassarawa and Edo .

It is a language belonging to the group of West Benue Congo languages. Together with the Gade language , the Ebira forms the Ebira-Gade subgroup, which in turn forms the Niger-Congo language family with the Edoid languages . There are several dialects of Ebira: Oken (Hima, ihima), Igara (etuno) and Koto (Igu, ego, ika, Wahlt, biri, Panda).

Ebira is an administrative and commercial language and is taught at universities. There are radio and television programs in Ebira. Their language is rarely taught in primary schools, and there are few TV and radio programs in Ebira. The Igbira do not use their language to get in contact with other people (the official language is English). Speakers of other languages ​​use Ebira to communicate with the Igbira.
