Echo of home (magazine)
The Echo der Heimat , also known as Austria's largest Heimat-Illustrierte , was an Upper Austrian weekly magazine that existed from 1945 to 1974.
The magazine was founded in 1945 by Gustaf Adolf Neumann and was published by the “Gustaf-Adolf-Neumann-Verlag” in Vienna . At the beginning it was considered politically " right-wing ". In 1946 there was therefore an uprising against Neumann.
In the mid-1950s it became Austria's largest weekly newspaper and caused a sensation “through a campaign for innocent convicts”, with a total of 13 people being rehabilitated. These included:
- Wilhelm Gratzl
- Alois Manninger
- Josef Auer and Huberth Ranneth
- Erich Rebitzer
- Rudolf Rechberger
- Franz Thiel
The campaign helped ensure that the death penalty was not reintroduced in Austria.
