Residential houses

The building on the corner of Fritz-Erler-Straße and Carl-Friedrich-Goerdeler-Straße in Düsseldorf-Garath is a residential building.

History and appearance

The house was built in 1970/1972 by the architects Dansard-Hellenkamp- Kalenborn in solid masonry with balcony parapets in exposed concrete . The wooden parapets were painted brown. According to Michaela Kalusok, “an explicitly solid, dignified construction method that left no room for architectural experiments or reforms” was chosen.

The client of the three- to nine-storey residential complex in the south of Fritz-Erler-Strasse was Neue Heimat NRW. The buildings create space for the main pedestrian access to the Garath S-Bahn station and also create space to the south to the garden courtyard and playground. Four apartments of different sizes are accessed by a staircase with an elevator.
