The Economist Intelligence Unit , also abbreviated as EIU, is a company that is part of The Economist Group and whose work is closely linked to the weekly newspaper The Economist . The main activities of the EIU are providing forecasting and advisory services through research and analysis, e.g. B. monthly country reports, five-year economic forecasts, country risk service reports and forecasts about individual branches of industry. The resulting data can also be accessed on the company's website, which is subject to a charge. The company has offices in 24 different countries.

The EIU is also known for determining various rankings and indices. These include the Where-to-be-born Index , the Global Liveability Ranking and the Democracy Index . Areas on which the research is particularly focused are consumer behavior , healthcare , public policy and China . EIU's clients include Rio Tinto , Du Pont and the National Health Service .

history

The EIU was founded in 1946 and has been offering analysis, provision of market data and forecasts and advice to companies and governments ever since. In 1986 it merged with the former Business International Corporation , a British consultancy that was taken over by the Economist Group.

In December 2012, EIU acquired the Bazian spart-up , which specializes in analyzing and delivering clinical evidence on health services, treatments and health technologies to assess clinical effectiveness and value for money.

In April 2012, EIU acquired Clearstate , a research company that provides tailored strategic advisory and primary research solutions specifically for the healthcare and life sciences sectors in the Asia-Pacific region. Clearstate was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Singapore .

In November 2015, the EIU launched the Market Explorer in cooperation with Canback. It's an online tool that can be used to search markets in different countries and cities around the world for the best locations for a product or service.
