Ed Caruthers
Ed Caruthers (actually Edward J. Caruthers Jr .; born April 13, 1945 in Oklahoma City ) is a former American high jumper .
In 1964 he was US champion and eighth at the Olympic Games in Tokyo .
In 1965 and 1967 he was US runner-up, in 1967 he won the Pan American Games in Winnipeg .
As the winner of the US eliminations, he went to the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City . There he had to admit defeat to his compatriot Dick Fosbury , who crossed 2.24 m with the flop named after him, despite his personal best of 2.22 m , and won silver in front of Valentin Gawrilow from the Soviet Union (2.20 m).
