Ed Heck

Ed Heck (born March 26, 1963 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American pop art artist.

Life

Ed Heck, who lives in Brooklyn , was already enthusiastic about drawing as a boy. He often took books as a template to paint over the pictures. He kept looking over his father's shoulder while painting, or they both painted together. After graduating from the School of Visual Arts (BFA) in 1987, Heck initially worked as an illustrator at the American Museum of Natural History . He also illustrated children's books. Often used by him motifs are dogs, cats, fish. The books he illustrated are aimed primarily at four to eight year olds, which he often publishes together with Price Stern Sloan.

Line drawings, which he made in the evening to relax, soon developed into a passion. His first exhibition in New York in 1999 was a great success. In 2004 he gave up his job at the American Museum and from then on concentrated on his own art company, "The World of Ed Heck", which he founded in 1999.

Ed Heck faced the choice of becoming a musician or a painter early on. He opted for the latter alternative, but not only remained connected to music in his pictures. B. Stage outfits for rock bands. The illustrations for the music video "Ow Wee Ka Zow Wee" by US singer Kimmy Schwimmy are also by Ed Heck.

Heck has been coming to Germany regularly since 2010 to personally present his art at exhibitions in the Mensing Gallery. Most recently, he was in Germany in October 2018 at the Galerie Zettl in Lower Bavaria.

Ed Heck's colorful comic drawings are popular with art collectors as well as with the general public. Many viewers are amazed by the childlike, naive, bold charm and the bright colors of his pictures. With a dash of irony and irrepressible creativity, the artist presents highly amusing characters. He always has his notebook with ideas for his pictures with him. He usually works on several pictures at the same time and paints everything himself. For a picture he needs about a week, regardless of the size. His pictures have now achieved fame beyond America's borders and establish his fame as a sought-after contemporary Pop Art artist.
