Georg August Wintterlin

Georg August Wintterlin , from 1883 also von Wintterlin (born June 13, 1832 in Stuttgart ; † July 3, 1900 there ), was a German librarian , art writer and poet.

Life

After studying theology and philology in Tübingen , he passed the theological exam in 1854. As a student he became a member of the Tübingen royal society Roigel . In 1855 the doctorate to Dr. phil. and a short period as vicar . From 1856 to 1860 he was a teacher at the Ludwigsburg War School , and from 1860 to 1865 a teacher at various high schools. In 1865 he became third librarian at the Royal Public Library in Stuttgart with the title of professor, in 1873 second librarian and (until 1881) inspector of the coin and antiques cabinet, in 1897 first librarian and director of the Royal Public Library in Stuttgart.

As an employee at the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB), Wintterlin took on the editing of the Württemberg artists, for which he made 76 contributions. For the majority of the 40 images of life in his work Württembergische Künstler in Lebensbildern , Wintterlin resorted to his contributions to the ADB, where they were "thoroughly revised, mostly also greatly expanded".

In 1876 he was awarded the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Frederick , in 1883 the Knight's Cross 2nd Class of the Order of the Crown , which was associated with the ennoblement . Wintterlin had been a member of the National History Commission since 1891.
