Karl Jakob Theodor Leybold
Karl Jakob Theodor Leybold (born March 19, 1786 in Stuttgart ; † July 20, 1844 there ) was a German painter , engraver and lithographer .
life and work
Karl Jakob Theodor Leybold was the son of the painter and copper engraver Johann Friedrich Leybold , who succeeded Jakob Schmutzer at the Vienna Academy in 1812 . Karl Jakob Theodor Leybold received his training here and traveled to Rome in 1807 with a grant from the patron and collector Moritz Graf von Fries , where he stayed until 1814. He then worked in Vienna and moved to Stuttgart in 1821, where he was professor at the art school from 1829 and inspector of the Royal Picture Gallery from 1842 .
Honors
- In 1826 he received a first prize from Goethe for his portrayal of the modern Greek Charon .
- In 1836 he was made an honorary member of the Academy in Vienna .
