Astrophysical Institute Fessenkow

The Astrophysical Institute Fessenkow (AFIF) ( Russian Астрофизический институт им. Фесенкова (АФИФ) Astrofisitscheski institute in Fessenkowa (AFIF. ), English Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute ) is an astrophysical research facility on the outskirts of Almaty in Kazakhstan . It is named after Vasily Grigoryevich Fessenkow , who founded the institute in 1946 and headed it until 1964.
There is a smaller observatory on the premises of the institute, which is also named after the area Обсерватория Каменское плато . Kamenskoe- or Kamenskoje-plato Observatory (stone plateau) is called. It houses a 70 cm and a 50 cm Cassegrain telescope and a 50 cm Maksutov telescope .
