William Steve "Willie" Overtoom (born September 2, 1986 in Bertoua , Cameroon ; also Willy Overtoom ) is a Dutch - Cameroonian football player . He's playing in the midfielder position .
Overtoom was born in Cameroon as Williamssteve Mbonkone-Sebé , but grew up in Obdam , the Netherlands , where he took his stepfather's surname. He spent most of his youth football at AZ in Alkmaar, about ten kilometers away, but was unable to get into the professional field here. It wasn't until 2006/07 that he played his first season in paid football: at Stormvogels Telstar , he made nine appearances in the Eerste Divisie . Then he was a season at the Hoorner amateur club HVV Hollandia, where he was discovered by the honorary division Heracles. In Almelo he developed into a regular player during his first two years, advanced to “number ten” under coach Gertjan Verbeek and scored 14 goals thanks to his offensive style of play. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he celebrated his hundredth league appearance. His contract with the Heraclieden ran until mid-2013. In the winter break of 2012/13, however, he moved back to his youth club and to his former coach Verbeek, to Almelo's league rivals AZ.
In November 2011, Overtoom decided to apply for a Cameroonian passport so that he could compete for the national team of his country of birth . He finally made his debut in May 2012 in a friendly against Guinea .
