Gottlieb Schick

Christian Gottlieb Schick (born August 15, 1776 in Stuttgart ; † May 7, 1812 there ) was a German classicist painter . His history pictures, portraits and landscapes were shaped by romantic tendencies.

Live and act

He began studying painting in 1787 at the Hohen Karlsschule in Stuttgart as a student of Philipp Friedrich von Hetsch , continued with Johann Heinrich Dannecker in 1795 and finished it from 1798 to 1802 in Jacques-Louis David's studio . Between 1802 and 1811 he stayed in Rome, where his painting was subject to romantic influences. His portraits are characteristic and well known.

The painter diplomat Ernst Zacharias Platner published the first biography of Schicks in 1813, which was reprinted in 2010.
