Edgar Barroso

Edgar Barroso (* 1977 ) is a Mexican composer.

Barroso studied digital art, composition, and electro-acoustic music. He obtained a Ph.D. with Hans Tutschku , Brian Ferneyhough , Helmut Lachenmann , Michael Gandolfi and Chaya Czernowin at Harvard University , where he has taught since 2010 and heads the Harvard Group for New Music . In 2006 he received a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service , and in 2007 a grant from the Spanish Phhonos Foundation. He has now won the Grand Prix at Harvard University's Live Electronics International Composition Competition . He was also a finalist in the composition competition of the Ensemblia Festival 2007 and the International Jurgenson Competition for Young Composers in Russia.

Electroacoustic music and multimedia works are at the center of Barroso's compositional oeuvre. He received the Best Audio Award at the international Black & White Multimedia Festival in Lisbon . In cooperation with the poet Juan de Dios Vázquez , the filmmaker Aryo Danusiri and the designer Yen-Ting Cho , the multimedia Nahua operetta Zazanilli was created in 2010-11 .
