Edgar Briggs - The Ace of Defense (Original: The Top Secret Life of Edgar Briggs ) is a 13-part British Comedy - TV series from 1974. In Germany , eleven of the 13 episodes were in 1976 in the ZDF broadcast and in the 1980s in some third party programs repeated.

David Jason plays Edgar Briggs, the head of a British intelligence agency who regularly drives his staff to despair. In his efforts to get everything right, he creates utter chaos and boundless confusion. Although everything that can go wrong goes wrong when spying on enemy agents and searching for secret documents through Briggs 'stupid behavior, in the end Briggs' employees succeed in solving the case every time, which Edgar then regularly credits himself with , not least motivated again and again by the saying "Fantastic, Briggs!" by his boss, the commander.

Trivia

In the German dubbing , the Eastern Bloc agents of the original were all called Toltecs (actually a people in Central America that had died out for centuries ). The responsible ZDF program director wanted the communist Eastern Bloc during periods of so-called detente not upset. In addition, one episode was not broadcast in Germany at all. Eleven years later, Südwest 3 repeated eleven of the twelve episodes under new titles. This is where the series got its now well-known title "Edgar Briggs - Das As der Abwehr". On ZDF the series was still called "Secret Agent 0014". There was no resynchronization for the repetitions, the Toltecs remained Toltecs, with at least one episode the announcement explained before what the Toltecs were actually about.

Occupation:

The main actor David Jason has since bought the rights from the BBC and stopped their further marketing. He found himself too bizarre in his role as a stupid agent, calling it “too raw and unpolished”.

In the meantime he has probably changed his mind; In England, the complete series is already available on DVD from Network (release date was March 2, 2015), in German Pidax is expected to release the series on April 21, 2017, with all 13 episodes to be included, but two of them only in the original German subtitles.
