The Edison-Höfe are a building complex consisting of a historic factory building from 1880 and a new building from 2012 on Invalidenstrasse in Berlin-Mitte . They can be accessed via Invalidenstrasse and Schlegelstrasse.

history

In 1883 Emil Rathenau founded the German Edison Society . In 1880 the Edison Höfe buildings were erected as a production site. As a result, the first incandescent lamp in Germany was manufactured in the Edison Höfe, and production there continued until 1905. The historic buildings were renovated between 2001 and 2004. From 2010 to 2012, the new building complex was built on the former wasteland in front of the historic building.

Today the building houses modern office, residential and retail properties. The building is characterized by its clinker brick facade and the mix of old and new industrial buildings. During the renovation, the storeys were increased and the old clinker brick facade was restored down to the last detail. The Edison-Höfe offer a total of 26,000 square meters of usable space. Of this, 14,000 square meters are used as office space, 6,000 as living space, 4,000 for retail and 2,000 square meters for gastronomy and cultural facilities. The architect of today's building project is the Spaniard Manuel Alvarez.
