Edith Kern

Edith Gentner Kern (born February 7, 1912 , † September 29, 2005 ) was an American Romance studies and literary scholar.

life and work

Edith G. Kern completed her master's degree with the work Rojas Zorilla in French drama, 1643-1702 (Baltimore 1944) and received her doctorate in 1946 under Leo Spitzer at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore on The influence of Heinsius and Vossius upon French dramatic theory (Baltimore 1949). She taught at various American universities (including Hofstra University and Smith College ). In 1977 she was President of the Modern Language Association .
