History and program
The publishing house was founded in 1998 as a cooperative and is run as a collective of eight members. When it was founded, he took over the books published by Eco-Verlag, which was created in 1974, including the novels and stories by Otto Steiger ; Edition 8 also acquired the collected works of the socially critical-realistic Swiss authors Jakob Bührer and Walter Matthias Diggelmann .
According to the publisher's profile, the edition 8 program is committed to a »critical view, shaped by the principles of the Enlightenment«. From Latin America and the Caribbean, the publisher has published works from Colombia ( Tomás González ), Nicaragua ( Sergio Ramírez ), Puerto Rico (Ana Lydia Vega) and Argentina ( Héctor Tizón ); in addition, the Scottish author Stuart Hood is cultivated.
Edition 8 endeavors to decorate its books with high-quality craftsmanship; so emphasis is placed on a uniform appearance, and each volume of books is set with a different font that corresponds to the respective program.
Edition 8 is a permanent participant in the Basel Book and Literature Festival .
