Edouard Silas

Edouard Silas (born August 22, 1827 in Amsterdam , † February 8, 1909 in London ) was a Dutch composer and organist.

Silas studied in Paris with Friedrich Kalkbrenner , François Benoist and Jacques Fromental Halévy . From 1850 he lived in London. Here he became organist at the Catholic Chapel of Kingston upon Thames and professor of harmony at the Guildhall School of Music .

He composed several symphonies, piano concertos and string quartets, the oratorio Joash (1867) and numerous organ works.
