Edox is a watch manufacturer in Les Genevez in Switzerland .

The watch manufacture Edox was founded in Biel in 1884 by Christian Rüefli-Fluri, a watchmaker from Grenchen in the canton of Solothurn . The trademark is the hourglass . In 1953 a new factory was built in Biel with up to 530 employees. At that time, Edox was one of the 10 largest watch manufacturers in Switzerland. No other Swiss watch company produced as many mechanical watch movements as Edox during this period . Edox also manufactured watches for brands based in the luxury segment. In 1975 the company slipped into a severe crisis . For too long, the company relied on the manufacture of mechanical watches and missed the triumph of quartz watches . In 1983 the company was bought by Victor Strambini and relocated from Biel / Bienne to Les Genevez. Since then, the watches are still being assembled by hand. The small village, Les Genevez, is located in the Jura Arc, the heart of the Swiss watch industry, at approx. 1005  m above sea level. M. Edox is one of the last independent and independent watch manufacturers in Switzerland.

history

In 1961 Edox launched the "Delfin". This watch had a patented double crown seal, a 30% reinforced case back and a shock-absorbing movement retaining ring. With this development, Edox created the basis for watches with a pronounced water resistance.

Ten years later, in 1971, the "Edox Geoscope", the world's first real world time clock , was built in Biel / Bienne . The clock face shows a picture of the globe and rotates once every 24 hours on its own axis. This results in a precise, mechanical time indication of all 24 different time zones .

In 1998 Edox launched the world's thinnest movement with a calendar, the caliber 27000. The height of the caliber 27000 is 1.4 mm.

The best-known collections are called: Class-1, Grand Ocean, Chronorally, Chronorally_1 and Les Vauberts.

Today Edox is the official timepiece of the Class 1 Powerboat World Championship. Class-1 is the premier class of water motor sports and is also known as Formula 1 of water motor sports. The company is also the official timepiece for the Extreme Sailing Series . Since December 2011 Edox has also been the official timekeeper of the Dakar Rally . Since November 2013 Edox has also been responsible for timekeeping for the World Curling Federation .

positioning
