Edward VIII Ice Shelf
Coordinates: 66 ° 50 ′ S , 56 ° 33 ′ E
The Edward VIII Ice Shelf is an ice shelf that occupies the near land part of Edward VIII Bay on the coast of the East Antarctic Kempland . The northern section was originally named Innviksletta (Norwegian for Inner Bay Plain ).
This was done by Norwegian cartographers who had mapped the ice shelf using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . The first landing was made in 1954 by the team around the Australian geodesist Robert George Dovers (1921-1981) as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . As a result of the survey carried out, the ice shelf in connection with the bay of the same name was named after the British monarch Edward VIII .
