Edward G. Mazurs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edward G. Mazurs (* 1894 in Lithuania ; † 1983 ) was an American chemist and chemical historian, best known for a book on the history of the periodic table and its graphs.

Mazurs studied in Riga and taught there as a chemistry professor from 1919 to 1940. In 1949 he went to the USA and worked as a chemist at Argo Corn Products in Chicago. After retiring in 1959, he moved to Santa Barbara, California, and taught at Westmont College.

His book listed over 700 illustrations of periodic tables from 1862 on, which he also classified. He himself also developed his own graphic representation and as a further development of the system by Charles Janet . Historically, its representation is not always reliable (the images are replicas by Mazurs, partially supplemented).

His estate is in the Science History Institute .
