Science History Institute

The Science History Institute is a non-profit organization founded by the University of Pennsylvania and the American Chemical Society in 1982 as the Center for the History of Chemistry to promote the history of chemistry and related sciences. In 1984 the American Institute of Chemical Engineers joined as a sponsor and the name Chemical Heritage Foundation was chosen in 1992. Seat is Philadelphia and founding president was Arnold Thackray . In 2015 they decided to merge with the Life Sciences Foundation, which dealt with the biological sciences, and the name was changed to the current name.

From 2013 to mid-2016, the Bielefeld science historian Carsten Reinhardt was President of the organization. The British Robert GW Anderson has been the Foundation's director since January 2017 .

Attached is a library (named after one of the main sponsors Donald F. Othmer ), the Roy Eddleman Institute for Interpretation and Education (for educational programs, publication series and the Museum of CHF in Philadelphia), the Center for Contemporary History and Policy and its research center, the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center for the History of Chemistry .

The CHF awards the Othmer Gold Medal for special achievements in the field of chemistry and the Biotechnology Heritage Award for achievements in the field of biotechnology .
