The Edwin Schuster-Hof is a council in the 19th Vienna district Döbling . It was built between 1958 and 1960 according to plans by the architect Hans Steineder and comprises 41 apartments.

location

The Edwin-Schuster-Hof is located in the Döblingen cadastral community of Nussdorf in the old town center of the wine village of Nussdorf. The residential complex comprises a row of houses running around a street corner on Kahlenberger Strasse and Greinergasse. The official address of the residential complex is Greinergasse 36–38.

History and structure

In the 1950s, the city of Vienna bought several old wine growers' houses and combined them to form a community building. The architects tried to preserve the townscape and to adapt the new parts of the building to the historical buildings in the area. The historical inventory includes a one-storey front building, an immediately adjoining rear building, also at ground level, and another free-standing rear building. With the inclusion of these buildings, architect Hans Steineder erected a closed corner structure, whereby he had two two-storey staircases built in Greinergasse. The three staircases on Kahlenberger Straße, on the other hand, have three floors. The meeting of the two streets is marked by a corner bay window. The car entrance to the Weinhauerhaus was retained on Kahlenberger Strasse, which today serves as the entrance to the parking spaces in the garden courtyard.

The Edwin-Schuster-Hof was artistically furnished with a natural stone sculpture entitled "Winemaker" by the sculptor Ernst Wenzelis. The farm itself was named in 1989 after the resistance fighter Edwin Schuster .
