Effective porosity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The effective porosity , also open or flow-effective porosity , describes the pore portion of a rock volume that allows hydraulic transport of fluids in the subsoil:

in which

  • the pore space that contributes to the flow of water
  • the entire volume of rock .

This rock volume must be hydraulically connected to one another, so-called dead-end pores do not contribute to the flow.

The effective porosity of aquifers is determined e.g. B. by a tracer experiment . The size of the effective porosity corresponds approximately to the size of the usable porosity in pore aquifers.
