Sieghard Pohl

Sieghard Pohl (born September 11, 1925 in Breslau ; † June 13, 1994 in Berlin ) was a German painter, graphic artist and publicist.

Life

Pohl attended the Rudolf Steiner School in Breslau and passed his Abitur examination there. Between 1943 and 1945 he was a soldier in the Wehrmacht . After being wounded and imprisoned, he studied from 1951 to 1955 at the Institute for Art Education at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig under Elisabeth Voigt and Hans Schulze and then became a freelance artist and art teacher. As an artist, he drew attention to the grievances in the GDR. Several times his pictures were hung up in exhibitions and confiscated, Pohl himself arrested. In 1964 he was sentenced to two years in prison by the Leipzig District Court for "subversive images" and imprisoned in Waldheim prison. In 1965 he was released from prison, ransomed by the Federal Republic and deported to West Berlin. In West Berlin he worked as an art teacher until 1987. In his last years he worked as a freelance painter and publicist.
