Egidijus Kūris

Egidijus Kūris (born October 26, 1961 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian constitutional lawyer . He is a judge at the European Court of Human Rights and former President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania .

Life

Kūris graduated from the Vilnius University Law Faculty in 1984 , where he worked as an assistant and lecturer in legal sociology until 1994. He received his doctorate in 1988. Later, Kūris was one of the co-founders of the Institute for International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University and its director until 1999. From 1993 to 1997 he was a consultant in the Constitutional Court. From 1999 Kūris was a judge of the constitutional court and from 2002 president of the court. Since November 2013 he has been a judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Egidijus Kūris is the son of the international judge Pranas Kūris . Egidijus Kūris is married for the second time. He has two children with his first wife, the lawyer Vilija Gražulytė . His second wife is an economist.

In the fall of 2006, information about a civil case in which he was a defendant for maintenance claims reached the media . The plaintiff Vilija Gražulytė tried to enforce the maintenance claims of his children living with her against Kūri.

Awards

The President of the Federal Constitutional Court Hans-Jürgen Papier presented the President of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court Egidijus Kūris with the Federal Cross of Merit awarded on September 21, 2006 during a visit by the delegation of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court to the Federal Constitutional Court from November 14 to 16, 2006.
