Pranas Kūris

Pranas Kūris (born December 20, 1938 in Šeduva , Radviliškis Rajongemeinde ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, international lawyer , judge at the European Court of Justice , Soviet-Lithuanian politician, Minister of Justice and judge at the Supreme Court.

Life

1961 graduated Kūris the Diploma in Law at the University of Vilnius . After the aspirantur from 1963 to 1965 he received his doctorate at the University of Moscow . 1973 Pranas Kūris completed his habilitation in Moscow . Later he worked in the diplomatic service, was Minister of Justice of Lithuania and held the Chair of Comparative and International Law at Vilnius University , member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Law. 1992–1994 he was the ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. From December 1994 to October 1998, he held the post of Judge at the Supreme Court of Lithuania and President of that Court. From May 11, 2004 to 2013 he was a judge at the European Court of Justice (until 2004 he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights ).

Kūris is the author of around 200 publications.

His son is Egidijus Kūris (* 1961), constitutional lawyer, judge at the European Court of Human Rights, professor, former president at the constitutional court.
