Egon Brandenburger

Egon Brandenburger (* 1928 in Driedorf ) is a German Protestant theologian (New Testament scholar) and professor emeritus.

Brandenburger studied Protestant theology at the universities of Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Bonn. As a student of Günther Bornkamm , he was awarded a Dr. theol. obtained his doctorate and habilitation there in 1966 for the subject of the New Testament . In 1967 he was appointed professor of the New Testament at the Bethel Church University , where he was rector from 1970–1971 . From 1973 until his retirement in 1994 he held the chair for New Testament at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .
