Egon and the eighth wonder of the world is a satirical-critical youth book by Joachim Wohlgemuth published in 1962 , which became a bestseller in the GDR and was filmed two years later .

The helper and main hero Egon Brümmer meets his eighth wonder of the world , the high school graduate Christine, who reciprocates his affection. But that is where great difficulties begin for him. With lies and excuses, he suddenly becomes entangled in a web from which there is almost no escape.
